Actress Lee Si Young from 'Sweet Home' talked about the action scenes and her muscular body.
On December 23rd, Lee Si Young held an online video interview and talked about come of the behind-the-scenes stories as the popularity of the Netflix original series 'Sweet Home', increases further.
'Sweet Home' is a story of the bizarre and shocking happening that occurs at the apartment complex. Hyun Soo, a reclusive high school student, is the main protagonist as he attempts to survive monsters as the apartment residents fight them off. In particular, the drama has gained much attention as it is directed by Lee Eung Bok, the director of 'Mr. Sunshine', 'Goblin,' and 'Descendants of the Sun.'
Actress Lee Si Young took on the role of Seo Yi Kyung, a firefighter from a special force unit, and performed challenging action scenes in the drama.
Lee Si Young revealed that she had lost weight to have only 8% body fat for her role of Seo Yi Kyung. She attended action school and began preparing for the action scenes six months before the filming and showed her perfect acting. The actress stated, "No one told me how much body fat to lose, but my trainer said I have to have about 8 to 9% body fat for my muscles to show, so I started working out with that goal. I had to bulk up, and I ate a lot to the point I couldn't eat anymore. Then I adjusted my diet for the filming."
She continued to explain, "I started to restrict my diet really strictly for two weeks. It was really hard during those two weeks."
She also said, "Since I'm not young anymore, I want to try as many action scenes that I possibly can. I'm very thankful that I was given this chance and I want to really show my fans my improvement if another chance for an action film is given."
Meanwhile, 'Sweet Home' premiered worldwide on Netflix on December 18th. 'Sweet Home' ranked top 10 in 42 countries, coming in at 8th place in the U.S. 'Sweet Home' is the first Korean drama to succeed in landing on the top ten ranks in the U.S. It has already received positive reviews as many international fans have praised the drama.
Maybe she meant 18% because, for women, 10-13% of body mass is essential body fat, i.e. it's needed for normal bodily function.
