We all know that BTS Jimin is one of the most famous people on the planet.
In fact, in November 2020, he continued to hold on to his place in the number one spot in the Korean Business Research Institute’s brand reputation rankings for individual idols. He’s been topping this ranking for 24 months straight. No other idol has come close to achieving this feat.
Park Jimin is a global superstar and music icon, but what qualities is the star most famous for? Here are some of the biggest reasons for his unrivaled international appeal…
1. His dancing and stage presence
Anyone who has seen BTS perform live will know that their choreography is one of the group’s most impressive skills - the technical skill involved is arguably unmatched by any pop group before them. So, to stand out even amongst some of the most talented dancers in not just K-pop, but pop music across the world, when performing on stage with BTS, is an even bigger achievement.
Park Jimin’s dancing can be characterized by the beautiful body lines and shapes he creates during routines. They are precise and clean, making each one of his moves stand out in dramatic detail, and as clear to the fans in the front row of the audience as they are to the fans at the back of the stadium. Clearly the moves of someone putting their whole being into the
performance, these skills can also be attributed to his training in contemporary dance. Surprisingly, he only trained formally in this for two years - you’d be forgiven for thinking he had spent much longer studying contemporary dance as an art.
The prime example of BTS Jimin’s flowing dance style and captivating stage presence, though, is during his solo routines.
There are many examples of Park Jimin’s dance talents, but one fan-favorite is from a 2016 performance of Mama, live from Hong Kong. Or his solo performance of Black Swan during their online concert a few weeks ago. Not only was Jimin’s Mama2016 performance beautiful but, amazingly, he was blindfolded throughout the routine. This performance is a shining example of his unique combination of hip hop body popping and locking, with refined ballet-style moves.
Another one of his iconic stages is when he performed his latest solo song “Filter” for the first time since its release.
2. His angelic voice
There’s actually a technical reason Jimin’s voice sounds so angelic: he is a perfect example of a ‘pure tenor’ voice style, with the skill to know exactly how to control the tone of his voice. His vocal expertise is most obvious in slower tempo, calmer songs like his intro song Serendipity or one of the group’s older track “House of cards” where he had the opportunity to show the heights and range his voice can reach.
Of course, BTS Jimin is the king of high notes, too.
Because he can balance his notes so well, this allows him to reach the highest singing notes on their songs with ease.
Another signature of Park Jimin’s vocal skills is the raspy quality of his lower tones, which adds an extra depth, texture and deeper emotion to his voice.
It’s not just the ARMY who love Park Jimin’s voice. Even BTS Suga has said he prefers Jimin’s voice to the other members of the group. In the 2018 Youtube Red BTS series, Suga revealed his preference in an interview, saying, "I'm not trying to say who is better than who," Suga explains, "I personally like Jimin's vocals. I like Jimin's voice better. It's my taste." Suga, we have to agree.
3. His Kindness and Generosity
The members of BTS are known for their kindness, often donating sums of money to charity and those in need. Park Jimin is the perfect example of this generosity, well known for his philanthropic work. In July 2020, he donated 100 million won, (approx USD 91,000) to the Jeonnam Future Education Foundation in South Korea, to help the students in financial need in Jeollanam-do to pursue studies. In response, Jimin was entered into the Jeonnam Education Hall of Fame. In the same year, Jimin continued to help children in need by donating desks and chairs for 1200 students attending the school he formerly attended, Busan High School of Arts.
Last year, Jimin also donated 100 million won to the Busan Metropolitan City Office of Education.
Jimin isn’t just generous with charity, but kind to his friends and bandmates, too. In an interview for Hulu Japan, the group J-Hope described Jimin as "a great performer but also an amazing friend." The other members of the group have also mentioned, on many occasions his kindheartedness.
Jimin’s kindness and generosity is an inspiration to millions of people the world over. His acts of kindness have inspired his fans to play a more active role in helping others by donating to various charities all over the world. It instills in us the feeling of fulfillment and happiness in helping others. Thus making him the kind of role model to look up to.
4. His Impact On Social Media
It’s incredible that while touring the world as part of one of the biggest stars on the planet that Jimin has any time for social media - but somehow, he has dominated the digital world, too.
Jimin has been active on social media in the past, regularly taking over the BTS account to give fans insight into the daily lives of the band, along with selfies, to bring the ARMY backstage with him. He also posts hilarious pictures of his bandmates - particularly on their birthdays.
Jimin holds the record for the most trending keywords and hashtags on Twitter’s top 30 trending list. In 2019 he became only one in Twitter history to occupy all top 20 Worldwide trends. In 2020, he broke that record with a staggering 28 keywords and hashtags trending WW on his birthday.
He also holds the record for the fastest tweet to reach 1million likes ever. It’s no surprise that Jimin was on the list of Twitter’s top 10 most tweeted about celebrities for the past few years. The only K-pop solo artist to do so.
On Instagram, #jimin, his official hashtag has topped 55m posts, making him the person with the most used hashtag on the platform. These are just some of the records he holds on social media platforms.
5. His Brand Power
Jimin is a style icon. If we didn’t already know that from his fashion on and off stage, the proof is in the fact that the brands he wears always sell out - no matter the cost. That’s the power of Jimin’s star quality
In November 2020, the WeVerse store started selling some of the most expensive pieces of BE merch ever: $91 pajamas embroidered with Jimin’s delicate handwriting, and one of the most. Despite the high price tag, it sold out in a record 10 minutes thanks to the marketing power of Jimin.
His solo cover for the Wallstreet Journal magazine’s 2020 November issue ranks #1 for selling the most copies in 4 of South Koreans top online stores. Proving his immense brand power at home and abroad.
The style sell-outs don’t stop there. During BTS' 2019 performance at the BBMAs performance of "Boy With Luv", No wonder brands across the world want to be seen on him.
I became a fan of Bts because of jimin’s fancams so i totally agree w that. Jimin’s stage presence is the best. Also when i joined the fandom i was surprised with jimin’s popularity, i knew he has famous but his impact is insanely bigger than what i thought
