SM has announced that they will be debuting their new girl group in the 2nd half of 2020, and it will be a huge one to look forward to.
Some ideas have been revealed for what the groups concept would be:
The ideas vary from the following
- Independent group - a typical group that has a normal idol format
- Female unit of NCT - being part of NCT, but as a girl group unit
- Similar to NCT - a separate girl group with an NCT like concept with multiple units who release their own music
- Similar to Exo - multiple units who sing the same songs, but in separate languages. Also comes together as a full group
- Fixed members + rotational members - a fixed group with a lineup that changes. Could be like After School who had new members & members who later graduated, or like Fanatics who has a different lineup per comeback (with the remaining members waiting until their turn for the next comeback)
We could definitely cut out the female NCT unit, considering this group is confirmed to be a full blown girl group. It is possible that the group could inherit the fixed/rotational concept considering this was planned to be Red Velvet’s original concept, but likely stopped once backlash for Yeri’s addition was revealed & rumors of more members were being circulated.
Some information that is known about the girl group is that they will likely follow the global lineup that NCT showcases, considering the current candidates range from Koreans, Koreans from Western countries, Japanese, Chinese, Thai, and more.
Everyone could definitely expect that whatever the groups concept is, it’ll be a unique one that could make them stand out.
NCT's rotational concept already didn't work from the start. If they repeat that with this new girl group it would just be the same result. Let's just think about NCT for this. Most of the non fans only know Mark or Taeyong from NCT. The other members will not even get to shine. So how can I expect this concept will work again with this new girl group?
