Three years since the release of “Lifted,” which landed her on the Hot 100 chart, CL was back on Wednesady (Dec. 4) with two new songs, “+ DONE161201+” & “+ REWIND170205+.”
Shared through her official YouTube channel, the songs are the first of six tracks set to be released on In The Name Of Love 1, a conceptual project album that will see more upcoming music from the K-pop artist over the next month.
The six songs are ones that CL worked on over the last three years but “couldn’t be released due to her circumstances,” according to a spokesperson. Each song is numbered to correspond with the date when they were created, as if part of a sonic diary representing her feelings over that time.
These mark the first releases from CL since she left South Korean entertainment conglomerate YG Entertainment last month, where she rose to prominence both as a member of girl group 2NE1 and as a solo artist. Since the release of “Lifted,” CL has regularly expressed her desire to release new music but did not issue any solo songs under YG since it arrived in 2016.
The two new songs from CL were released via a pair of music videos that put the spotlight on CL and her supporters, with "+DONE161201+" filmed as a vertical series of clips, edited by CL herself on her phone. The clip features people singing along to the song, including BIGBANG's Taeyang, co-2NE1 member Dara, former YG labelmate Lee Hi, Wonder Girls' Sohee, Ricky Thompson, Grimes, and numerous others. Meanwhile, "+REWIND170205+" features a collage of unreleased images of the star that reflect the time that has passed, even as she sings about starting anew.

The pool of talent would be mind blowing. They all have connections and influence. Show the world what YG insisted on NOT showing the world.
