After hearing of the death of actress and singer Sulli due to online bullying I hoped it would cause online bashers to rethink their actions. It didn't. Within a week or two, while artists were cancelling concerts and delaying album releases, those who would seek to destroy our favorite artists were back at it again.
At the Facebook group "Daily Yoona" I saw members discussing how Lim Yoona was getting trash talked after her recent success on the big screen. I also watched as SONE discussed Taeyeon's mention sometime back about being down in the dumps and people teasing her about it. SONE worried what the effect on just these two Idols would be after witnessing our "Peach" passing way too soon.
So I suggested a way of countering such bad behavior with actual hands on positive reinforcement. We couldn't stop the bullies from posting online so why not send the singers and actresses real live cards and letters of support? Surely a bunch of actual messages from caring fans that could be touched and held in one's own hands would be worth more than useless tirades of words on a computer screen. So lets send cards and letters to all the members.
So after some back and forth discussions with SONE this became the message to fans. "With all the negativity and cruelty being spewed out on the web on members of Girl's Generation/So Nyuh Shi Dae it's time to send the members actual cards or letters of encouragement. It doesn't matter if you don't speak or write Korean. Just write "SONE with a drawing of a heart below it and the member's name below that" into a card or on a pretty piece of paper and send it to them. Yoona, Taeyeon, Yuri, Hyoyeon and Sunny can be reached c/o SM Entertainment 648,Samsung-ro (52-1 Samseong-dong), Gangnam-gu, Seoul, Republic of Korea. Seohyun can be reached c/o Namoo Actors 6F Samkyung B/D 34, Eonju-ro 150 gil, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, Republic of Korea. Tiffany Young can be reached c/o Paradigm Talent Angency 8942 Wilshire Blvd. Beverley Hills CA 90211. Sooyoung can be sent mail c/o Saram Entertainment 3,4F Seongmisan-ro, Mapo-gu, Seoul, Republic of Korea.' (For those who are fans of the OT9, I haven't forgotten Jessica, just don't have a real mailing address yet)
And this isn't just for Girl's Generation members. If your favorite singer, actor or actress is getting undeserved comments online and you want to personally write them a letter of encouragement then go to wikipedia, find the company that represents them, look up the mailing address on the company's website and start writing and sending out the mail. Share the addresses with your friends and in Facebook groups. This is what I did.
My hopes are that bullied Kpop stars can soon be posting pictures on Instagram of postal bags full of kind messages from caring fans to show the haters that Love Triumphs Hate.
