Okay, Now Blackpink is what I'd like to call at this point groundbreaking. Three years ago I would never have expected YG's girl group and 2NE1's little sisters to go on ahead and be the first female kpop girl group to perform in coachella, appeared on the cover of billboard magazine, charted for three weeks straight on the billboard hot 100 (making this their second entry on the chart since Ddu Du Ddu Du), be on numerous American television appearances and so on. Basically, Blackpink is a force to be reckoned with. While the immense popularity of the group is only further seen in Korea due to member Jennie's successful solo and cf deals. But however there is another member who seem to be bigger than the group itself on a global scale and that is Lisa, easily the most popular of the group since debut (I don't see that changing any time soon).
She has managed to snag the cover of Dazed Korea (twice), Nylon Japan, Harper's Bazaar Thailand. She is the muse and global ambassador for fashion house Celine, and reportedly AIS paid the whooping sum of $1.7million to YG to have Lisa be their newest ambassador (like I said reportedly, there's been no confirmation from YG yet). She is also the most followed Kpop act, with almost 19 million followers in just 9 months. She has numerous viral fancam that was even noticed by American artist, Jason Derulo. While she may not be popular as much as Jennie or Jisoo in Korea. She seems to carry a heavy fanbase in the US, Japan, Philippines, Thailand, China and Indonesia which is basically 80% of Blackpink's fanbase and easily their most thriving market.
With a solo on the way, you can see Lisa breaking YouTube records, Topping iTunes charts and dare I say, Charting on the billboard hot 100. While S.Korea has had it's fair share of 'it' girls come and go, and some leaving a lasting impact (like Yoona, Suzy, Nana, Lee Hyorin), Lisa is easily the biggest global 'it' girl we've seen come from the Kpop scene and not just in a while but, like, ever.
It is Kinda true tho
