The members of Cosmic Girls recently sat down for an interview to look back on their achievements in 2018, while also looking forward to their activities planned for 2019!
After naming milestone events such as their first ever #1 win on a music show, the recruitment of their 1st official fanclub, and receiving the 'New Wave Awards' at the '2018 Asia Artist Awards' as some of the most memorable moments of 2018, Cosmic Girls also discussed some new concepts they would like to try in the future.
Bona commented, "The first thing that comes to mind is a special album series, for each season. We've never released special songs for the summer time or the winter time. I've always wanted to try it."
Exy shared her own thoughts with, "I would like for us to try a concept that is appealing to the general public, but still unique. A concept like SISTAR sunbaenims' 'Alone', which was unique and alluring. All of the members are now much more mature now (Laughter). So we can pull it off."
Soobin remarked, "I'm not sure if I can say something like this. But I think that a more girl-crush, trendy genre would be good too. We've tried various concepts up until now, but they're all concepts revolving around the image of 'girls'. I think it would be good to depict an image of 'women' too."
Finally, Cosmic Girls put their voices together and asked the public to look forward to their promotions in 2019. What kind of concept do you want to see Cosmic Girls try on their next comeback?
I think they've had mature vibes, but I definitely understand that they want something 'edgier'. The thing is, I've often loved their music because the look and overall aesthetic has always been something a little different than what we hear with some of the current groups. I'm not saying they're the only ones with an individual concept or anything, because plenty of groups are pushing the envelope with different concepts and styles. But I can most certainly understand them wanting to branch out, because although I like so much of their music and looks, it does seem to fit within one category that is the brand of WJSN/Cosmic Girls overall. While each comeback seems to be a new take on their style, I'm sure it can get a bit monotonous for them, especially seeing other groups trying new sounds and concepts. I'd love to see their company give them a chance to branch out a bit, but I can understand them worrying about the risk if what the group is already doing is selling consistently.
