Politician Ha Tae Kyung spoke out about the military exemption issues involving BTS.
On September 5, Ha Tae Kyung of The Bareunmirae Party attended a government meeting and once again discussed the issues on military exemption policy. During the discussion, Ha Tae Kyung delivered clarification on BTS' involvement in the issue.
He stated, "Military exemption has become a hot issue and there have been some misreporting. Therefore, I want to deliver a message to netizens and the press. BTS fans have never requested a military exemption for BTS. I am here to confirm that reports about BTS fans requesting military exemption are false. It's unfortunate how BTS became the center of the political debate after I mentioned them."
He continued, "I did not intend to use them for political goals. The reason I mentioned them was to show the severe inequality between classical music and pop music. The situation (with BTS) was the best in reflecting the unfairness in the military exemption policy. I did not have any other political intentions behind it."
Ha Tae Kyung once again emphasized, "BTS and their fans have no fault in this. The only fault they have is being too talented. That's it. I hope the media does not distort the love of BTS fans when covering the military exemption issue. If there's criticism then I, who initially brought up the issue, would take it all. Please throw the stone at politician Ha Tae Kyung."
In July, Ha Tae Kyung discussed giving military exemptions to artists such as BTS who have received global recognition. Ever since then, military exemption policy became a hot debate. Fans have become angry as BTS continuously got involved in the controversial issue.
