On November 15, the hashtag #mama???? (#getoutofchinaMAMA) trended on Weibo. The reason behind the anger is that Mnet used different flags for China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau on their official homepage.

Various Chinese media outlets pointed out the 'mistake' and stated, "MAMA is a grand scale Asian award ceremony that has been going on for the past 10 years. They hold up the slogan, 'Representative Ceremony' and 'Prestigious Music Awards'; however, they did not consider the political aspects of China and labeled Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macau with different flags. It's clearly a violation and a mistake."
Many Chinese netizens criticized Mnet for ignoring the nation's principle of 'One China', and commented, "I'm so angry", "We need to boycott 'MAMA'', "Don't hold 'MAMA' in Hong Kong", "One China needs to be reserved."
'2017 MAMA' is scheduled to take place on November 25 in Vietnam, November 29 in Japan, and December 1 in Hong Kong.
It's reported that Chinese reporters attempted to reach CJ E&M regarding the issue, but failed to speak with a rep.
