On August 1, Starbucks Korea made an announcement with the tweet,
"? Ah woo, it's cold brew
? Ah woo, it's a coffee for you
? Upgraded starting today Yeah Yeah
? One size up Yeah Yeah
*Cold brew drinks one size until August 7!"
Ah Woo ?? ???
Ah Woo ? ?? ???
???? ????? Yeah Yeah
? ?? ???? ? Yeah Yeah
* ?? ??? ???, 8/7?? ? ?? ??? ?! (??? ??? ???)
You might've noticed but the tweet is a parody of EXO's ''Ko Ko Bop'', and it has succeeded in garnering attention as it gained more than 24K retweets and 8.9K hearts as of August 4.
Although the tweet was sweet and innocent-enough, it was also met with criticism. Several netizens criticized Starbucks Korea for showing favoritism and not being able to distinguish ''business and personal favorites". A comment stated, "Maybe the social media manager changed but please keep your personal tastes to yourself!"
On the other hand, the vast majority of netizens found no issue with the tweet, stating, "It's not the first time a brand parodied a popular song for promotions", "Why are people complaining? They're just following the trend."
EXO-Ls also spoke up and claimed the people criticizing Starbucks Korea are most likely anti-fans of the group.
