His upcoming film 'The Merciless', directed by Byun Sung Hyun and also starring veteran actors Seol Kyung Goo, Kim Hee Won, and more, has been invited for a midnight screening at the international festival, scheduled from May 17-28 this year.
Upon hearing news of the film's invite, Siwan stated through his label Plum Entertainment, "I never even once thought about the 'Cannes Film Festival'. I'm only a rookie actor who is overwhelmed just with the act of acting... the only way I can think of to describe this opportunity of 'The Merciless' being invited to 'Cannes' is that it is luck from heaven. I only wish that a lot of people will enjoy 'The Merciless', which I had a great time filming."
Korean films invited to this year's 'Cannes Film Festival' include 'The Merciless', 'Okja' directed by Bong Jun Ho starring Tilda Swinton, Jake Gyllenhaal, and more, 'The Villainess' starring Kim Ok Bin and Shin Ha Kyun, Hong Sang Soo's 'Afterward' and 'Claire's Camera' both starring Kim Min Hee, and indie films 'Director Kim' and 'Interview: Sorry Day'.
