At the scene, there were some civilians who were dangling outside their windows in panic. Seeing this, firefighters Kim Sung Soo and Choi Gil Soo set out to rescue the people, turning themselves into human shields as they blocked the fire so that the civilians can safely make their way down to the ground.
After hearing the coast was clear, the firemen then jumped to safety from the third floor. Like from a movie scene, just as they escaped through the window, the great fire exploded into the air, lighting up the dark night.
While on duty, Firefighter Kim received burns to his hands and face while fireman Choi injured his waist from the impactful fall.
It is unfortunate, especially for Choi who was looking forward to his wedding in April.
However, the men replied despite their injuries, "It is the duty of the firefighters to save civilians' lives."
It has been reported that two people were critically injured and two children and three adults were also hospitalized for excessive smoke inhalation.
