Def Jam Records is a record label owned by Universal Music Group. The American branch in the United States holds artists such as Kanye West, Justin Bieber, Iggy Azalea, Alesso, and more.
BTS used to be under Pony Records in Japan but they have signed the contract with the Japanese branch of Def Jam. Big Hit Entertainment will still be managing the group's promotions, however, their activities in Japan will be handled by Def Jam Records.

The partnership between BTS and Def Jam Records in Japan is expected to have a great impact in expanding and furthering their Japanese promotions.
Faisel Durrani, the General Manager/EVP at Def Jam Records stated, "We are thrilled to welcome BTS to the Def Jam family. It's remarkable how they have established a strong career in such a short period of time, and we wish them more successes in the years to come."
BTS will release their first single under Def Jam in Japan, "Blood Sweat & Tears (Japanese version)" on May 10.
