Four teens gang rape a high school student; judge says they should get another chance

Four teenagers were sentenced to prison time for gang raping a female high school student. 

According to a police report, four 17-year-olds got the victim drunk outside while drinking together in May of this year. When the victim fell asleep, they took her to a motel and sexually assaulted her. 

On December 14, the Jeonju Court sentenced the four male teens to prison time -- varying from 2 years and 6 months to 3 years with probation time.

The court stated, "Based on the method of the crime and the damage, we conclude that the crime was of a grave nature. Also, the victim is under great emotional distress...However, considering that the defendants are being repentant after a long time in jail, and they were able to settle with the victim, and the victim also asked they not be punished." 

The judge added, "We also noted that there is a need for the young boys to be able to be reinstituted back into the society as normal citizens," explaining the light sentencing.
