On November 3, Kim Jong Kook shared a back shot showing his ripped muscles on Instagram. Some comments portrayed amazement at his incredible physique, while some tackled the star by bringing up his past mandatory military service as a public service officer. Haters claimed that Kim Jong Kook, who's extremely built and strong, must have lied about suffering from a herniated disc to obtain an easy option for his mandatory military service.

In response to the accusations, Kim Jong Kook revealed an X-ray of his back and made a statement. Kim Jong Kook wrote,
"I had scoliosis since the day I collapsed from back pain in high school. People say how can you make a body like that with that back. Well, I did. No, I am still making it because something needs to support that curved spine. I give up sleep and work my butt off while weak people move their mouths saying it's impossible, making all kinds of excuses, going out, drinking, and comfortably living under warm blankets. 'Does that make sense? It must be this.' Please stop doing this. I know it makes you feel better to put down a person who succeeds what you believed you couldn't do, but I hope you can finally start something that you thought was impossible. The joy in completing the things that no one believed you could, please feel that at least once. I feel bad that's why."
