The Jeonju District Court announced recently that it has fined a 49-year-old high school teacher for charges of assault against a student.
This past April 29 around 1:50 p.m., the teacher reportedly struck one of his students, a 16-year-old, on his cheek using a 60-70 cm (~24-27 inches) long cable wire protector. The teacher allegedly struck the student for the simple reason that their eyes met during class.

It was revealed that when the student resisted by grabbing the cable, the teacher slapped the student twice on his cheeks and shook him by his collar.
The court fined the teacher 2 million KRW (~$1,821 USD) and reasoned, "We cannot deem that [the assault] had any educational aim and because the defendant did not attempt to right his wrongs, we have issued him with a fine."
