On August 3, Yonhap News reported on the death of a 4-year-old girl who suddenly collapsed after eating a hamburger.
The police, after discovering bruises all over the little girl's body, are planning to investigate whether she might have been physically abused.
According to the Incheon Nambu Police Station, around 1:30 PM this past August 2, the 4-year-old girl suddenly collapsed while she was brushing her teeth in the bathroom of a multi-family dwelling in Incheon's Nam District. Immediately before losing consciousness, the girl was reported to have eaten a hamburger at home with her 27-year-old mother. The mother's friend, a 27-year-old woman who lives with the mother and daughter, was also present at the scene.
The mother dialed the emergency number 119 right away and attempted to save her daughter by performing CPR; unfortunately, the girl had already passed on before the ambulance and medical team arrived.

The mother testified to the police, "I performed CPR [on my daughter] exactly as the EMS directed on the phone but she stopped breathing after she threw up the food."
The police are taking into account the possibility that the girl may have been the victim of abuse from the mother and her friend after discovering bruises on her face, arm, and leg areas. In order to validate their suspicions, police plan to request an autopsy at the National Forensic Service.
Meanwhile, it was reported that the mother divorced her husband in 2012 which was the year her daughter was born and has since been living with her friend.
A police rep relayed, "Through the autopsy, we plan to find out just how much of the hamburger the girl ate before she passed away. We also plan to confirm whether the bruises formed solely from accidents or whether they were formed from force."
