Sometimes, these names are so ridiculous that they leave you scratching your head in dumbfounded amusement and/or confusion. Thankfully, there are many more creative, memorable names that just roll right off your tongue.
But what exactly is the basis for horrible and awesome K-Pop group names? Well...there really aren't any grounds; some names are great, some just aren't. However, "experts" in the music industry beg to differ. According to these experts, there are clear reasons as to what make a great K-Pop group name and what doesn't.
A picture showing a list of the best and worst K-Pop idol group names as handpicked by experts was uploaded online.
For the 'best' list, Big Bang is first place for the reason that their name "coincides with the group's explosive popularity." In second place for the best name are Girls' Generation and G-Friend, as their names "pay attention to the markets in China and Korea" and make them seem "approachable." SHINee comes in third place, and the experts reason that their name appropriately signifies the K-Pop idol imagery through visual and auditory cues. In fourth comes INFINITE, whose name "matches their tough image."
As for the 'worst' list, experts awarded the worst name to a group called Snakehead and wrote, "A sad name that won't ever be cool no matter what music they do." The second worst name went to none other than SONAMOO, whose name was described as "lacking purpose" and "genderless" and, "ambiguous." KNK took the honor of third worst, as their name reveals nothing save for the fact that the members are tall (KNK stands for 'Keu Na Keun' which is meant to signify how tall the members are). And last but not least, Boys' Republic took last place on the 'worst' list, as experts deemed them as one of the worst possible examples of "Girls' Generation imitators."
And there you have it, folks. You can let us know if you agree with the assessments of these experts.
