After the successful EP 'Pink Ocean,' Oh My Girl is back for a fresh summer stint with a re-package of their last release, 'Windy Day.' This one contains two new songs, the title track "Windy Day," and Seung Hee and Binnie's duet "Stupid in Love."
"Windy Day" starts out soft, but ends up as lively as we expect an OMG tune to be. It's a polished piece of pop with a mature vibe, thanks to the acoustic guitar. Their voices are beautiful, high, and clear, never competing with the instrumentation. I love how the chorus is completely different from the main melody -- powerful yet pretty -- and just rocks. The harmonies are absolutely golden and are really what makes this track great.
The duet "Stupid In Love," which has nothing to do with the Rihanna track of the same name, is a warm, airy piece of soft pop. It has a dreamy quality to it, and it's easy to get lost in the soothing vocals. There's almost a 'gather round the campfire' feel to some of it, though the production is certainly top notch. It's a fantastic way to kill three minutes, and a few more with the replays. :)
I think these tracks stand toe-to-toe with the best songs on the 'Pink Ocean' EP. They may even be better, but that could be because their new shine has not worn off yet. If you are hungry for more Oh My Girl, then this should keep you satisfied until the next comeback.
MV REVIEW
The MV "Windy Day" is a collection of scenes that make little sense. Doesn't mean, though, that it's not absolutely cool. There are shots of the girls in the antlers, the members getting blasted by wind gusts, them making their way through the woods, and even (oddly) a scene with a pistol.
The dancing interspersed with all this is actually quite good, as their skirts billow with the wind. Technically, the choreo was hot and on point. I can imagine myself looking awkward trying to pull off the same moves.
While the girls were all appropriately dressed in various pieces of finery, most striking was the red dress worn by Jiho. Not only was it a stunning piece, but also it stuck out particularly during the forest scenes.
All in all, "Windy Day" has a great feeling to it. A sunny day, adorable girls, high voices and warm smiles all combine to great effect here.
