A surveillance camera located in the elevator of an apartment building in Gwangju City's Ochi-dong showed the 26-year-old student walk out onto the 20th floor landing. Around 20 minutes later, the apartment residents found the student's body splayed on the front of the apartment building. One witness relayed, "I heard a 'splat' and heard someone yell 'Ah!' and wailing. I went to see what happened and told my daughter not to look."
The 26-year-old had jumped from the 20th story; unfortunately, at the exact time he jumped, a 38-year-old man was walking into the building. The man was caught completely unaware by the student's falling body above and was crushed directly underneath. A security guard who discovered the two bodies dialed 119 (emergency number), and they were immediately transferred to the hospital for medical attention. However, it was already too late for the both of them.
The 38-year-old man was returning home with his family after logging in overtime hours for a work-related event. The government organization that the man worked for is looking into whether his death would count as a workplace accident.
