According to the party, it is becoming more and more prevalent for celebrity sponsors to use SNS accounts to approach celebrities.
Brokers contact celebrities through private text messages. In the beginning, the messages contain business partnership offers, such as "A modeling contract for a medical tourism service targeting female tourists from China, A modeling project for a luxury yacht and leisure sports club." The content of the particular messages shared by the party also indicate that the messengers look for celebrities with "A clean and sophisticated image, someone who can act without hindering their image on cable programs and advertisements."
While these brokers start off lightly with business partnership offers, if a female celebrity shows interest in the partnership, their approach changes quickly. They suggest a formal meeting to specifically discuss becoming a sponsor for the female celebrity, saying, "I would like to interview you with the concept of scouting a charismatic career woman character, and if we can come to an agreement on the terms, you'll be assured I'll sponsor you with an amount of money you won't regret."
The amenities that the brokers offer are lifestyles only enjoyed by society's elite 1%. The offers include luxury studios in ChungDamDong, transportation via luxury cars, scholarships for graduate school, scholarships for foreign language tutoring schools, luxury sports club memberships, as well as a pay of 20,000,000 KR? (approximately $16,000) per month, and more.
In the case that the female celebrity raise suspicions for being offered terms very different from what the broker first suggested, brokers simply retreat from their end quickly. Even when sending photos of their business cards, brokers keep their identities well veiled by blurring half of their phone numbers.
A representative of the female celebrity party stated, "A celebrity under our label informed us that she kept receiving strange SNS messages, so we checked up on it and found out it was a sponsorship offer. When we expressed suspicion, the other party quickly retreated."
Apparently, it is extremely common that many celebrities receive these "sponsorship" offers in the entertainment industry.
