Before jumping into anything, I have to admit that I have a huge love-hate relationship with 'Cheese In The Trap.' I despise the fact that Seol and Yoo Jung have to suffer so much in order to make their relationship work and especially the fact that In Ho, who is clearly much better at making Seol feel comfortable, will never get a chance.
Seol and Yoo Jung have been on that nonstop struggle train, going back and forth from being in the honeymoon phase one moment to hitting rock bottom the next. Please someone tell me that I'm not the only one getting drained watching these two argue in basically every episode?
But then the drama reeled me back in by adding in the family aspect and backstory for both Seol and Yoo Jung.
The scene where Seol broke down in front of her parents and Joon after overhearing her dad talk to Joon about going back to school, having Seol take another year off to pay off Joon's tuition, was probably the most enraging yet engaging moment in the episode. I've never really understood Seol and her meekness as well as her tendency to let other take advantage of her, but it all boiled down to the kind of treatment she's receiving back at home.
Highlighting this particular scene was probably one of the best things that the producers could have done to bring the drama back to earth. This is the kind of scene that viewers of all ages can understand and connect with the kind of pressure and burdens Seol is going through, not the scenes where Seol is constantly battling with her outrageous peers like Yong Gon and In Ha.
We also get to see a bit of why Yoo Jung is so against Seol being close with In Ho with a flashback of when he saw his dad being more accommodating to In Ho and In Ha more so than his own son. Whether it was intentional or not, Yoo Jung feels as though In Ho is out to 'steal' the people who matter the most to him.
Though this flashback was a bit too short, briefly showing a disappointed Yoo Jung walking into the living room with In Ho and In Ha talking fondly with his dad, it was enough for the viewers to see the kind of effect it had on Yoo Jung.
The ending, though, leaves us disappointed yet again with yet another argument between Yoo Jung and Seol. It's understandable where Yoo Jung is coming from, but it doesn't change the fact that it leaves a bad taste in our mouths.
