On February 17, the Seoul police station stated, "We have received a warrant to search for the sponsor who sent Jisu an offer on Instagram, and we have sent such requests to Facebook, which operates Instagram, but have been denied answers as they cannot violate the privacy of its users."
A rep stated, "If the IP address had been located in Korea, Facebook would have been able to provide the requested details. However, since the IP address came from a third country, Facebook is unable to provide the user's account information."
To overcome this obstacle, police have said they will look for different ways of investigation. However, the inability to investigate the broker or sponsor's social networking services is a great downfall to the case.
As previously reported, Jisu's agency Dream Star Entertainment stated that it would be requesting an official investigation from the police's cyber team as a man had been constantly messaging Jisu with offers to meet one of his 'customers' in exchange for money.
