REPLY 1988 - EPISODE 6
As they say in 'Game of Thrones,' "Winter is coming." Taek heads to China for a baduk tournament, and endures five straight days of grueling competition. Finally, he ends up exhausted, bereft of sleep, but he finally beats his opponent. It's a somber victory, though, almost as if he had lost.
As they celebrate, Sun Woo mentions (in an attempt to generate sympathy to get the last slice of pizza) that he wants to confess his love for someone, but doesn't know how. Deok Seon tells him to confess during the first signs of snow. She is heartbroken when Sun Woo shows up later, after snow is announced, and asks for unnie Bora.
The adult Deok Seon, dancing as her dumbfounded husband looks on.
Of course, the whole time Jung Hwan has it bad for Deok Seon, and even loses his appetite. And we hear the radio going, as the DJ informs his listeners that a confession during snowfall has a 90% success rate, that someone could be in love right now, and he urges them to call that special someone. So Taek decides to call Deok Seon, and asks her out to a movie.
With the scene shifting back to the present (2015), they're all discussing this. Bora smokes, and annoys Deok Seon. Deok Seon's hubbie comes on camera, and teases her about getting rejected by Sun Woo. She dances to an old song, and embarrasses him out of the room...
Taek, exhausted after his win
So it's not Sun Woo. Interesting... At least, I don't know many people who refer to themselves in the third person. I wonder if it could be Jung Hwan? We know he's got a thing for her, and he makes no secret of it, even acting a little jealous around Sun Woo. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that he won't be doing that anymore. It's cute, though, that the cool, bad boy has a crush on our resident heroine, and that he can't bring himself to say it, even though it kills him to hold his tongue.
Taek surprised me. I'm actually kind of happy he did it, considering he's the total nerd of the group. I'm a little worried for him, too. It's not like Deok Seon is massively sought after, but there are those that admit she's cute. So what chance does Taek have, being that he can't figure out a walkman, or even really feed himself without help? Maybe, just maybe, that DJ is right, and with the first snow a confession will most likely lead to something. I hope so.
Taek: "Would you like to go to a movie?"
Seeing them as adults is quite amusing. They've given up a bit of their rivalry, and now we get snatches of what they think now, looking back on it all. Bora's still inconsiderate, and still smokes (yuck!), and seems now a bit more whiny than anything. Deok Seon still seems to love to have fun as she once did, and the expression of disbelief on hubby's face when she starts dancing is priceless. These actors are good at what they do, and the writers have given them cute parts, too.
I'm really enjoying myself now. I dunno about you guys, but this is a great little drama. As I said, it doesn't have the breakneck action of an 'IRIS,' but it does a great job of framing everything with the adults looking back on their lives, and the scene transitions are sometimes sheer genius. And I wanna see Taek and Deok Seon go out together. #teamtaek.
