A major explosion within the Sangju tunnel of the Central Inland Expressway resulted in the injures of 21 people, along with 11 vehicles catching on fire.
Around 12:10pm (KST) on October 26, a 3.5 ton freight truck carrying flammable diluents (thinner) went out of control when it tried to hit the brakes for a sudden halt, toppling to its right. The thinner that was loaded on the truck came pouring out, and it was soon engulfed in flames.

The passage towards Changwon was completely closed off for nearly six hours; one lane was reopened for travel around 6pm (KST), allowing vehicles to pass through the tunnel again.
The Korea Highway Corporation and the police are planning to reopen both lanes after they finish cleaning up the debris from the incident and they have thoroughly conducted a safety inspection of the area.
