A Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency officer was sentenced to prison for sexually assaulting a prostitute he met through a smartphone chatting application.
On October 5, the Incheon District Court sentenced 34-year-old sergeant 'A', who was indicted on charges of rape, to one year and six months in prison and also ordered him to complete 40 hours in an anti-sexual violence program.

This past May 21, 'A' dressed up as a civilian had taken a prostitute, 33-year-old woman 'B', to a motel in Incheon after paying her 130,000 KRW (~$112 USD). When they arrived at the motel, 'A' pulled out his badge and threatened 'B' about going to jail. 'A' then dragged a frightened 'B' out of the motel under the guise of taking her back to the station for interrogation and took back the 130,000 KRW he had paid her earlier. Instead of taking 'B' to the police station, 'A' drove her to a different motel in the Bupyeong District and forced himself on her.
'A' claimed that 'B' had consented to the sexual activity but the court sentenced him to prison, stating, "['A'] neglected his duty to protect the citizens' lives and properties and the nature of his crime is highly immoral."
