INSOLENTLY, GO GO - EPISODE 6
Yeon Doo conducts the interview with the reporter about spec-stacking, figuring this is a way to save Teacher Yang. The story is quashed, however. Later, the two teams come together to show Instructor Nam their presentations, and she announces that they'll combine the two routines as a single team and elevates Yeon Doo to captain.
Teacher Yang accidentally brushes Jae Young's breast helping with a cheerleading routine, and Soo Ah hatches a plan to get rid of Yang, by getting this student to cry sexual harassment. Of course, the three involved in the plan are also involved in the spec-stacking. The students fight for Yang, even signing a petition, but the petition is round filed by Ha Joon's abusive dad, who is part of the school's operation committee. At an inquest, Yang resigns, but agrees to attend their school performance (since Yeon Doo invites him personally).
Soo Ah's reaction to Yeon Doo being named captain
Feeling bad about her false accusation, Jae Young helps make it right by admitting to the school, via a sign held during their performance, that she lied while the whole team holds signs to support Teacher Yang...
So Soo Ah is still the consummate bad girl. While there's comfort in familiarity, I was hoping maybe by now, mid-series, she would have changed her tune some and instead of getting punished, actually have other students pulling for her and helping her out. But I have a feeling that somehow, this isn't going to happen.
At the hearing to determine Teacher Yang's fate
And with Principal Choi gunning for Teacher Yang's job, is he safe yet? They were looking for a reason to can him anyway, and they can't fire him as a whistleblower, since that would lower the school's prestige. Choi and her lackey -- those two are the ones I hope are punished, and the parents along with them. Sometimes a little character drift is a good thing, but other times justice is satisfying too.
This episode was very, very serious in tone. Short-lived victories such as Yeon Doo being appointed team captain were tempered by allegations of sexual harassment, Soo Ah's scheming, and Teacher Yang resigning. At least it had a happy, feel-good ending, but I'm pretty sure they're not out of the woods yet.
A hug for luck
Now it's established. With the airing of this episode, it's more obvious than ever there is a conspiracy in the school, and the parents, the Principal, and the administrators are involved in it. But how far does it reach? And is everyone entirely to blame? Choi herself wants to be seen as the puppetmaster, but it seems like she herself answers to the parents who make demands. She merely wanted to punish Yang, but the parents pushed for more drastic measures. The Dept of Education, despite being present at the inquest, didn't detect anything untoward. Are they possibly involved, too?
And now we are mid-series. I love the episodic nature of the show. It's like it has a larger story-arc, with room for tons of character-defining episodes, and I like that. They cram a lot of story into these episodes, and it doesn't seem forced. 'Producers' was like that, where they justified their over-an-hour running time by putting two stories together and calling it an episode.
The team shows their support for Teacher Yang
Thankfully, the show hasn't suffered from any serious issues yet with its storyline, and I'm hoping it can keep up with the pace it's set. There's a lot of dramas that develop giant plot holes you could drive a school bus through, and the characters dance around these plot holes, blissfully unaware of them. But this show has a way of tying up the dangling threads very quickly, with a scene or two here or there.
I'm really into this so far, even if I have a pretty good idea how it's going to end. Half the fun, though, is getting there. :)
