INSOLENTLY, GO GO - EPISODE 1
'Insolently, Go Go' is a drama airing on KBS on Monday and Tuesday nights. If you're into all the high school hijinks that go in these teen dramas, then this is one show to watch.
At an upscale high school, Sevit High, there are two cheerleading clubs that are locked in a battle for dominance: Real King and Baek Ho. Real King consists of the low income students, the ones with the lowest test scores. Baek Ho members are all upper crust, chaebol heirs bound for Ivy League schools.
WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!
The embattled club, Real King, does what it can to defend itself against the people who are trying to shut it down - to no avail. The school moves everything out of the practice room. Yeon Doo puts up protest posters, which embarrass the principal and put the administrator in conflict with the Department of Education.
After learning that Soo Ah helped engineer the club's downfall, Yeon Doo quits the school. Her only friend at the school, basketball player Dong Jae, gives her news that sparks a new idea. The next morning, she shows up at the school, heads over to Baek Ho's area, and announces she's taking over the club, as she brandishes a membership form...

A transfer student, whose grades and income level place her at the bottom. She leads the Real Kings cheerleading club.

SEO HA JOON
Part of the Baek Ho squad. While we don't see much of him this episode, we see the bruises left by his abusive father.
KIM YEOL
Leader of Baek Ho, class president, gets top grades and comes from money.
It's supposed to be a comedy, but it's not laugh out loud hilarious. The animations are cute, and so are the scene transitions. They do a good job of keeping it interesting. It deals with some dark subjects, but the mood is light. From what I've seen in previews, it looks like it gets even darker.
The drama itself is very fast-paced. There's very little in the way of wasted time or lingering edits. It fits well with the light mood and keeps things moving right along. It's a pace we don't often see outside of an action drama, and this drags even less than some of those. I'm hoping they can keep the pacing up in future episodes.

The music is almost entirely K-pop. While not necessarily notable in itself, the pacing didn't allow for a ballad. This may change as time goes on, but to me it just added to the excitement. Not only that but also there's a solo Eunji dance sequence, set to MFBTY's awesome "Fly Like An Eagle." I literally cheered out loud when I heard the first strains of the tune.
I love how they left it on a cliffhanger. Yeon Doo has her work cut out for her if she intends to lead a club full of people who have nothing but contempt for her. I hope she has a plan other than just joining up.
If you haven't seen it yet, check it out! It's on the major drama sites listed as 'Cheer Up!' and 'Sassy Go Go.' And if you have seen it, let me know what you think!
As a bonus, in case you haven't heard it (or you have, and you enjoy it), here's the MV for "Fly Like An Eagle."
