Recently, a photo was uploaded on a Facebook page with the short words, "A picture posted by Lee Sun Mi who lost her daughter from the Sewol tragedy." The photo was originally uploaded on Lee Sun Mi's personal Facebook page and shows the near pitch black cabin interior with the ominous sea looming beyond the windows. You can barely make out the silhouettes of the passengers trapped inside the cabin.
At the time she uploaded the photo, Lee wrote, "Proof that the kids are alive even though [the boat] is tilted over 90 degrees and there is a power outage." This picture wasn't exposed to the media but it recently surfaced online and has been circulating like wildfire via social media.
Netizens who came across the photo relayed their deep regrets and sympathies, commenting, "I can feel just how anxious the kids were awaiting their rescue while looking at the dark ocean outside the window," "How scared they must have been," and "It's a shame that we can only look on like this. I'm sorry and sorry again."
Though it has been over a year, people will not forget all the souls who passed from this tragic incident. Let's hope that they are resting at a better place.
