Sung Yeol (SY) finally, finally gets his hands on Crown Prince Junghyun's (CPJ) diary! It was hidden at the temple that Yang Sun's (YS) father visits--also the burial site of YS's actual father. As I was watching this scene, I was afraid that Gwi would just pop out from behind a pillar and snatch away the diary. Thankfully, both SY and the diary were left safe and sound.
YS's life is spared and that is all good and well, but the catch is that in return for life, she has to work as a slave. Guess that's slightly better than having the fluids sucked out of you by a bloodthirsty yet sexy vampire. What I still don't understand is why the king chose YS to be arrested as the 'Lustful Student (LS).' Out of all the booksellers roaming around the Hanyang area (present day Seoul), why YS?
I don't know what any of this means.
Dafuq did I just read??
SY schemes to rescue YS from living her life out in slavery. He bribes a high-ranking official with some land in Pyongyang to smuggle YS from the palace. SY learns from the official that Prime Minister Choi Chul Joong (Gwi's main yes-man) rose to his high seat seemingly unprecedented, and that there are talks he obtained his position only after he "gifted" his only daughter to another official farther up the rung. As Choi Chul Joong only has one daughter, namely Hye Ryeong (also the reincarnation of SY's past love), it's pretty obvious that the prime minister sold her to Gwi in exchange for more power. I'm just waiting for the episode where this venal prime minister will eff up and end up dying in the hands of his master, Gwi.
Profile of beautiful woman?
Meanwhile, SY is busy trying to crack the CPJ code, not even an inch closer to discovering why the crown prince left a bunch of random names in his diary. On one particular page, SY reads the following mysterious phrases: 'maternal relation,' 'guardian demon,' and the 'monarch's will.' SY tells Soo Hyang (SH) that he and CPY are part of the grand ol' plan to oust Gwi. Someone please tell me something I don't know. In short, yes, the diary is found but no, we're no where near destroying Gwi. *Sighhhhh* A book called 'Killing Gwi for Dummies' would come in very handy at this point.
Wrong it's the profile of a beautiful MAN.
SY manages to reunite with YS after his bribes saved her from slavery. Alas, he must part with her again and send her off to Tamna "for her safety," when in fact, he is just running away from his feelings. In the end, however, YS doesn't even end up going down to Tamna with her foster mother and sister. The mother found out that YS is the daughter of a 'traitor' and didn't want to endanger herself or her daughter.
Yes, it's exactly what you are thinking, Lee Jun Ki and Lee Yu Bi are BATHING together.
I'm still unsure how SY came to have feelings for YS. Save for the instances where he was forced to save her out of pity and the many instances showing YS's puppy dog-like infatuation of the scholar, I don't think the drama did a very good job of how the love between the two developed. SY did mention something about falling for YS's pure heart and her positive approach to life, and how she reminded him of himself back when he was a human himself. But that was it. The relationship between SY and YS developed so suddenly into full-blown love from what was just pity on SY's end and a crush on YS's end.
I puked at the level of cute.
The king orders builders to erect another structure within the palace, which is just a small part of his bigger scheme to fight Gwi. Every episode the kind seems to be plotting something but it's never revealed exactly what he is plotting. Considering that the king has his wits about him despite his old age, I'm expecting him to have a grand plan in store.
YS, having no place left to return to, decides to walk off a precipice and end her life. SY of course, shows up just in time to stop her from jumping to her death.
What do you think about how the story is progressing so far?
