The fight for justice for undocumented single mother Jo Nan Hui continues with her release from detainment.
Because of her undocumented immigration status, however, Jo was charged with child kidnapping upon her return to the United States, leading to her detainment by the ICE last year. At the time of her arrest, she faced possible deportation. Jo was also not allowed to get in contact with her daughter, then 5 years old, during the duration of her detention. Her abusive partner was allowed to care for their child.
Her supporters, however, continued to fight for the mother, rallying together and getting the hashtag #StandWithNanHui trending.
Now, a recent positive development arose, however, with the ICE's release of Jo Nan Hui on bond. While this is not the end of the legal battle for the undocumented single mother, it's certainly encouraging to see a positive development in the fight for justice for Jo as she is now able to care for her daughter.
Jo Nan Hui's child abduction charges are currently being appealed. She is also awaiting the results of her visa applications. You can donate to help fund Jo's legal expenses here.
