According to distributor Show Box, the film's first five days mobilized 3,370,000 moviegoers. Now, just a week after its release on July 22, the movie has set a new record by gaining over 4 million viewers.
'Assassination' is setting the same records as 'Avengers: Age of Ultron,' and surpassed previous Korean summer blockbusters 'The Thieves,' and 'The Host.' Just this past weekend alone, the movie rallied around 2.4 million people to the theaters.
This year, amongst Korean films, it recorded best advanced ticket sales, best opening score, and achieved 2 million to 3 million viewers in the shortest amount of time.
'Assassination' is a historical film set in 1933 during the Japanese occupation with an assassination plot to take out a pro-Japanese group.
