You might have heard just how popular 'Running Man' is overseas, and how popular the cast members are. And apparently in China, Kim Jong Kook is known to be more popular than Korea's beloved 'nation's MC' Yoo Jae Suk!
On the June 5 episode of JTBC's 'Seul Jeon', the fixed panel discussed why this was so.
Kim Jong Kook's friend Seo Jang Hoon said, "Kim Jong Kook spends half of his week in China. Kim Jong Kook should change his name to 'Kim Joong Kook'." This is quite funny, as the word 'Joong Kook' means China in Korean.
The cast members talked about the reasons why Kim Jong Kook might be more popular than Yoo Jae Suk as they said, "Yoo Jae Suk talks a lot, and he's not weak yet he's not strong either nor tall. His character is ambiguous."
They added, "In comparison, Kim Jong Kook comes and finds a solution as soon as there's a problem, and has a clear character. Ji Suk Jin is the same. His onscreen image is also clearly identified as the old hyung-nim with the big nose. In these ways, it's easier for Chinese people to understand and grasp Kim Jong Kook's onscreen image over Yoo Jae Suk."
