After a 2-1 victory against powerhouse Spain last week, fans cheered as the team made the round of 16 and were eager to see the South Korean national women's soccer team advance further. Unfortunately, Sunday's game against France proved to be too much for the team as France easily won 3-0. The French team, ranked third in the world, immediately scored two goals in the first 8 minutes of the game, the first goal made within the first 4 minutes. They also managed to score a third goal 48 minutes in, leaving the South Korean team flustered and desperate for great plays. It also didn't help that South Korea was playing with a handicap, as lead scorer Ji So Hyun sat out with a thigh injury. Despite several attempts at the goal, the team could not make a successful shot. France will advance to play against Germany in the next game.
However, this is the first time the South Korean national women's team has made it to the round of 16 and they played hard, so that's something to celebrate! Good job, ladies.
