On December 3, Seo caused a buzz on the internet when an onlooker shared a video of Seo attempting to drive away from a police officer after he stopped her for driving the wrong way on a street. The police officer struck Seo's car with a baton several times, causing her windows to break. Seo crashed her car into a sidewalk, yet when the police officer opened to door to speak with her, Seo drove forward again with the officer hanging out of her vehicle. The video, which has gone viral with over 1.8 million views, can be seen above.
The Seoul Central District Court revealed that Seo was charged with interfering with the duties of an officer and injuring him as well. The Department of Justice stated, "[Seo] did not behave properly towards an authority figure and she endangered citizens' lives which could've resulted in serious injury."
They then explained their leniency, saying, "Ms. Seo committed her crime in an agitated state as she was depressed and anxious after fighting with her boyfriend over breaking off their engagement." They continued, "We took into consideration the fact that she has admitted to her crime and is deeply reflecting on it and that she gave 2 million won (approx. $1,800 USD) to the police officer for his injury."
Seo has been sentenced to two years of probation and 80 hours of community service. If she violates the probation, she will be sentenced to jail for one year and six months.
