The Japanese Embassy celebrates the emperor's birthday annually and often invites Korean politicians as guests. Although Emperor Akihihito's birthday is on December 23, the embassy chooses to celebrate earlier in December. The embassy usually celebrates at the ambassador's house, but there have been occasions where they celebrate it at hotels.
Back in December 2010, the embassy threw the party at the Lotte Hotel. Lee Sang Deuk, older brother of then-president Lee Myung Bak and Grand National Party lawmaker, attended the celebration, infuriating some Koreans who believe that such a party should not be held in the country in the first place.
In the video above, two older male protesters can be seen burning pictures and attempting to run up to the guests with signs. Security guards detain their efforts, yet starting at the 1:55 mark, one woman yells right at the incoming guests without any interference from the guards.
The woman condemns the party guests, saying things like, "The bitches attending the Japanese emperor's birthday party, blow yourself up!", "Drink shit (toilet) water!", and, "It's the same for you foreigners. Why are you going to eat at the birthday party of a nation that is a war criminal? Be ashamed of yourself."
In the same video, the woman is pulled aside for an interview. She explains to the camera, saying, "When they held a birthday party at the Lotte Hotel last time I also went [to protest]. Isn't this an issue that shouldn't happen?" She justifies herself, saying, "Those people deserve to hear these curses. I think cursing at them more severely would be fine." She continues, "The fact that there's a birthday party for the Japanese emperor in Korea is considered to be laughable by our nation."
This past July, the embassy had to cancel their celebration for the 60th anniversary of Japan's Self-Defense Forces (JSDF) due to the number of complaints.
