I applaud In Ha for finally succeeding in standing up to Cha Ok, not just for Dal Po but also for herself. Throughout the series, Cha Ok tells In Ha that she can't be a reporter because she's a Pinocchio, so she can't lie. But during this episode, In Ha proves her mother wrong by showing that her inability to accept dishonesty actually makes her a reliable reporter, a voice for the people--for Dal Po in this case. Her mother's habit to lie and report the news without knowing the facts, on the other hand, makes her a flawed reporter. I'm happy that In Ha finally had her kick-ass moment of triumph. She got her boyfriend some justice, she taught her stubborn mother a lesson, and she shone as a reporter who can't stand to allow dishonesty and deceit to stew in the news world.
Dal Po, on the other hand, seems to strangely become more and more secretive, and consequently deceitful to the people around him. In this episode, he attempts to cover for his brother in front of Captain Gyo Dong, he lies to Dal Pyeong about his family's background, and he decides to remain silent instead of "howling" at Cha Ok like he said he would.
Of course it makes sense why Dal Po would want to stay silent about his family situation. He's trying to protect his brother without causing alarm to the people around him. It seems he feels reluctant to challenge Cha Ok because he doesn't want to hurt In Ha, either. But as Gyo Dong says from the very beginning of this episode, "The truth will come out into the world in the most random way," whether Dal Po likes it or not. Eventually the truth about Dal Po's relation to Jae Myeong and Jae Myeong's crimes will rise to the surface and when it does, Dal Po may have some explaining to do.
In the meantime, Dal Po finally reveals the truth about his identity to at least two people this episode--In Ha and Jae Myeong. And while In Ha, like the champ that she is, handles the news maturely--well, aside from bawling for hours, of course--we can't say for sure yet how Jae Myeong will react. After all these years of living, thinking that his younger brother was actually dead, and going crazy to the point of murdering people, how can he react? At this point, I have no idea what can happen next, but I just hope that Jae Myeong and Dal Po can at least have one moment to bond after all these years apart despite the unfortunate circumstances that make them enemies now.
Highlights:
We start off with emo In Ha blaming herself for her mom's mistakes. Oh, In Ha, don't be silly; your parents' mistakes aren't your own--that's old-fashion K-Drama logic!
Ah yes, the period. The one topic to silence all men.
So according to this guy's logic, Jae Myeong's not worth investigating because he's a "national hero" and he's going to become a contracted source for the police? What about the fact that he's the last person the victim called! That at least warrants some questioning, HELLO?
LOL oh Momma Ro Sa. You and Dal Pyeong are tied as my favorite parents of this drama.
Well, that escalated quickly.
She even throws money at him LOL. The chaebol mom cliches. I can't.
Of course, it turns out to be all in Dal Pyeong's imagination. Dal Pyeong-ah, you've been watching a lot of K-Dramas, haven't you.
Wonder what that "just a daughter" tag is for? Does Daddy Dal Pyeong possibly have that name tag so that his ~lady friends~ don't misunderstand? Heh heh.
I understand where Dal Pyeong is coming from. He's just trying to make sure Dal Po doesn't have a shady past that can come back to haunt him or In Ha.
And then Dal Po pulls this. Dal Po, he just wanted one honest answer! Why you lyyyying...
Looks like Dal Pyeong has to kiss that In Ha x Beom Jo ship goodbye.
Boss Lee Young Taek (Kang Shin Il) trying to channel an "STFU" glare.
Oh. My. God. Out of context, this looks so (hilariously) wrong.
Meanwhile, YGN be creeping.
Nice derp capture, Cha Ok. Low blow, but I still had a laugh. Props.
In Ha fires at Cha Ok using the words Dal Po once used against her episodes ago. I like that they keep using his passionate speech from that episode; it indicates that there's a resounding truth to it that the show aims to emphasize.
And then In Ha throws in this. Ouch. Sorry, Cha Ok, did you need some ice for that burn?
Dal Po finally, FINALLY tells Jae Myeong who he really is! Will Jae Myeong believe him? Can they finally talk without having to circle around each other suspiciously? What kind of future exists for these brothers? Let me know in the comments below your thoughts and predictions! Check out the caption contest giveaway from yesterday's review here.
