Back on October 9 at 9PM, the Yongsan Police Station received an urgent call from a family that was worried about their missing grandma. The 87-year-old grandma 'A' had gone grocery shopping earlier in the day, but even late into the night, she hadn't yet returned home. Furthermore, A had received kidney surgery just 20 days prior. Although she had a drastic recovery in a short two weeks, she had difficulty walking, making the family even more concerned about her safety.
The Yongsan Police Station dispatched eight police officers in four patrol cars. Two police officers Park Jin Soo and Shin Yeong Bin searched near the Noksapyeong Station for two hours. The pair finally found A hobbling in the area. After confirming her name and home phone number with her, they drove her home.
As A lives in a townhouse located on top of a steep sloping hill, when the police officers could not drive up to her residence, Park offered a piggyback ride to A. Despite A's protests, Park carried her for 40 meters (approx. 131 feet) uphill.
After returning her safely, A told officer Park, "Accept what this halmuni (grandma) gives you," and gave the officers some candy out of gratitude.
Shin, who only recently became a police officer at Yongsan Police Station back in February, shared, "Because my grandmother was not with us ever since I was born, I did not know how it felt to be a grandson; after helping grandmother A, my heart felt sad." He continued, "I will treasure this feeling, and as a police officer I will help those who are having difficulty."
Netizen reaction has mostly been positive, with the top comments saying variations of, "What a warm story," and "[The police officers] are really cool."
