When asked about the public's response to the movie, Esom remarked, "There are a lot of people around me who are giving good responses. I'm not sure if they're sincere or not, but there are positive comments."
The most interesting response to the movie proved to be that of her mother. Esom continued, "My mom said she cried a lot. Especially because my mom thought Duk Yi [my character] was me, she cried thinking her daughter was pitiful."
It seems that Esom's mother was so convinced by her acting, she couldn't help but be invested emotionally in the movie. As for leading actor Jung Woo Sung, he mentioned that his close friend Lee Jung Jae has yet to see the movie, saying, "My best friend Lee Jung Jae said he's in Shanghai right now, but that when he comes in today, he will watch it. I'll listen to his review after he watches it."
'Scarlet Innocence' is said to be based on the Korean classic folktale 'Shimcheongjeon'. It is a modern version of the story that completely turns it upside down, following the passionate and vicious love between Hak Kyu (Jung Woo Sung), a professor, and Duk Yi (Esom), a young girl in her 20s.
