MY LOVELY GIRL, EPISODE 6
Shi Woo worries about his debut
RECAP
Shi Woo and Se Na end up at a karaoke bar because she makes him want to sing, in contrast to the small part he had in Infinite Power. He had never sung a full song before. Rae Hoon interrupts their moment with a call, telling Shi Woo to get his mom away from Rae Hoon's house. Shi Woo's mother was debasing herself in the hopes of getting Shi Woo back into Infinite Power. He berates her and ends up at ANA to announce that he agrees to being a solo act.
At a press conference, he announces it officially. In preparation for his solo debut, he practices vocals and dance. Se Na continues to work on her song. The executives gather and compare songs for the title track and Se Na's song wins out. As Hyun Wook and Hae Yoon discuss dinner plans, Se Na beats them to the punch and invites Hyun Wook out on her own. Her plans are derailed as Hae Yoon accompanies Hyun Wook to dinner, and the two girls fight with each other, picking at each little thing. Hyun Wook waits for the champagne, toasts the girls' success, and then immediately ends the evening.
An angry Shi Woo leads his mother away from Rae Hoon's place
Hyun Wook's father comes to ANA and offers Hyun Wook unwanted advice. Se Na gets a makeover from her friend and turns into Cinderella when she hits the club for the company gathering. She catches Hyun Wook's eye, but his tinnitus hits him and he has to leave. Hae Yoon is confronted by Jae Young, and he asks her if she wants to know the real reason Investor Jang withdrew funding. Se Na tries to cheer up Hyun Wook with a joke that requires balance and loses hers. Hyun Wook catches her before she falls. Jae Young and Hae Yoon get there just in time to see Se Na and Hyun Wook in an embrace. Jae Young plays upon Hae Yoon's fears: "Just like when he fell in love with So Eun..."
MY TAKE
Poor Hyun Wook. He has to deal with not one but two jealous girls getting absolutely catty toward each other. And on top of that, he has a high-powered enemy at a rival company that has it in for him. But, to be perfectly honest, I think I'd be more of afraid of the women ;) He handles it well, I'll give him that. I have to salute the writers of this series. They insert parts in here that just make you grin. I can see it could have gone badly with slaps and shrieks, but they went all out to just make the dinner scene awkward, and it ended up being hilarious.
Se Na makes her entrance as a radiant club vixen
Shi Woo is nervous about his debut. He seems a bit more nervous than he should be. He's used to the limelight, has tons of female fans, and was immensely popular in Infinite Power. In addition, the phenomenon I've seen in K-Pop is loyalty. Assume for a moment that Infinite Power is real and you're a fan. Assume again that Shi Woo is your bias. Shi Woo announces he's leaving the band to go solo. Are you going to be mad at him that he's leaving the band? Or are you going to still follow him and love what he does?
Hyun Wook's relationship with his father is just a wonderful one (note the sarcasm), and unfortunately, it follows the tropes of a lot of K-Dramas: the unreasonable parent. The great thing is that Hyun Wook, while respectful to his father, understands that does not mean slavishly following him. His father seems to be in rather poor health, and I have a feeling that in this series, just like in many others, we'll see his demise. I hope Hyun Wook makes up with his father before it's too late.
I loved Se Na showing up at the club and wowing everyone, and I also liked how she didn't end up leaving at midnight (a la Cinderella), but Prince Charming did. I thought that was an interesting turn of events. Hyun Wook didn't have time to be intrigued or swept off his feet. What concerns me, of course, is how some things are going from bad to worse. What also concerns me is where Hae Yoon's loyalties lie...
Se Na and Hyun Wook together
Will Hae Yoon end up switching sides and siding with Jae Young? Who will get the guy? I know some of you have expressed disappointment or disbelief about Se Na ending up with Hyun Wook, but I'm still not ruling that out. Still, I think appropriate pairings would be Shi Woo/Se Na (assuming Shi Woo starts acting more maturely) and a Hyun Wook /Hae Yoon (assuming she doesn't end up doing something stupid). Your thoughts?
