The second episode of YG and Mnet's survival program, 'MIX & MATCH,' aired on September 18, showing snippets from the press conference as Yang Hyun Suk explains the concept of the show, the boys' interviews as they explain how they want to make their parents proud, and more. In addition, although it was revealed earlier that three of the trainees were already set for iKON, you can see how the boys handle that news when they're told by Yang Hyun Suk in this episode.
In this installment, the boys practice hard for their end-of-the-month evaluations. The eight trainees split into groups of four to do separate performances in front of Yang Hyun Suk. They also combine for a charismatic performance of CL's "Mental Breakdown."
After watching their performance, Yang Hyun Suk states, "Doing well and being diligent are both important to me, but the most important thing is to be nervous. Even in 'WIN' battles, there probably was not a single day you did not work diligently, yet you lost. That's how people are. I believe that the process over a few months greatly developed you. I'm going to change the rules, so that you are nervous every single day," understandably causing all the trainees to panic with this unexpected news.
Yang Hyun Suk said, "There are a total of eight of you. Right? I'm going to add one more person. Out of the nine of you, I'm going to pick seven. So that you guys will be nervous, I am going to include the existing members.
Among the six members of Team B, three will be confirmed. As you might have all expected, B.I, Bobby, and Kim Jin Hwan are confirmed as members for iKON. Four of the six will make it while two will be eliminated in this system. No one can predict the final results, but I hope everyone will do their best."
The trainees showed their dissatisfaction with this system as Kim Jin Hwan states, "I was a bit disappointed," Bobby says, "Truthfully, it's too cruel. The six of us overcame a rough process together, but on top of that, he gives us another task," and Song Yoon Hyung says, "It was a complete mental breakdown."
Already confirmed for debut, Bobby says in the video, "I didn't like it one bit. I really didn't like it at all," showing how he felt sorry towards the other members. Goo Jun Hee states, "I was put in a really bad mood. I was in a sour mood and my pride was hurt. Is this the result of what I did over the course of two and a half years? I felt that I had not been able to gain the chief's trust as much as those three."
