The 2014 Asian Games held the opening ceremony today and will continue until October 4. 45 countries will participate in 439 events under 36 sports. As the slogan is, "A breath of peace, the future of Asia," the 2014 Asian Games is an event meant to unite the Asian countries in a moment of peace with friendly competition.
North Korea, which has been in an armistice with South Korea for 61 years, has also entered the Asian games, sending 150 athletes and will be participating in 14 sports. As the country ranked 12th in 2010 with 36 medals, it aims to do just as well, if not even better, as the leader of the North Korean team Kim Byung Sik states, "We prepared well, but we have to play the games in order to tell [how well we will do]." South Korea also hopes to improve on its 232 medals in the 2010 Asian Games, which was second only to China.
