Yang Hyun Suk had stated that Park Bom, her mother, and her grandmother did not know that the amphetamine pills she received were illegal, but recent reports are now questioning if that may have been false.
According to prosecutors on the 6th, Park Bom's parents had told Yang Hyun Suk about Park Bom's amphetamine smuggling after being caught immediately on October 19, 2010, and talked about what course of action to take. Park Bom's parents admitted smuggling in the drugs, but that they had no other choice for treatment purposes because the pills could not be received in Korea. When Park Bom became an official YG Entertainment trainee in 2005 and could not go to the states regularly for her prescription, they decided to smuggle the amphetamine in.

However, in new reports by Segye Ilbo (1), contrary to Yang Hyun Suk's statement, the media outlet infers that Park Bom's parents knew that the drugs were illegal in Korea. Park Bom's father consulted famous university hospital doctors on whether Park Bom would be able to take amphetamine in Korea and was told it was illegal. Park Bom's father is the CEO of a medical treatment company, and he was able to gain information as the executive manager of the alumni associate to a university hospital that he delivers his company goods to.
Park Bom's father told this not only to Yang Hyun Suk, but also to the prosecutors. Also, it's been revealed that the amphetamine that was smuggled into Korea was also purchased illegally in the United States. Park Bom's mother received substitute prescriptions for the amphetamine in her place, but amphetamine cannot be prescribed to anyone else even in the States. Even with a prescription, the person has to directly go to a pharmacy and prove their identity to receive the amphetamine.
A legal insider said, "If the drugs were purchased illegally in the United States, this is a case that can be punished in the United States as well. If the prosecutors did indeed drop the case of someone who smuggled narcotics, then this has to be seen as special treatment."
According to America's Controlled Substance Act Section 829, a written prescription by a practitioner would be necessary each time in order to get ahold of amphetamines, meaning no refills. Section 953 states that amphetamine is not allowed for exportation unless there are certain requirements met, such as the country allows importation of the substance, the person has a permit or license allowing reception of the substance, and more.
