TRIANGLE EPISODE 26 (FINAL)
Recap:
Dong Soo and Young Dal race to save Yang Ha only to see him stabbed when a fight ensues. He dies with words of brotherly love on his lips and is memorialized the same as his father, his ashes scattered. Chairman Go goes into hiding. Young Dal informs Yoo Jin of Yang Ha's death and dissolves their partnership. When they pack up Yang Ha's office, they find a USB drive that contains evidence of all the corruption at Daejung casino. Chairman Go beats Soo Chang, his lackey, who then leaves him, taking the 2 million they had squirreled away.
Dong Soo v. Chairman Go
Dong Soo finds Chairman Go's hideout, but Man Bong stops the former detective from killing the scumbag. Go is taken to justice. With information from Manager Hyun and Chairman Go, they are able to incriminate Chairman Yoon, who shoots himself when he sees there's no way to escape. Young Dal is named the new CEO of Daejung Casino, and he, Jung Hee, and all his friends live happily ever after.
My take:
Can I call it or can I call it? In my review for Episode 24, I figured that either Yang Ha would join the brothers and live or remain with Daejung and die. He does the latter, which doesn't make it any easier to accept simply because it's a trope. I wanted to see him live or, at least, something more original than the ideas I had.
The meeting announcing Young Dal as CEO
I was kinda hoping that Chairmen Go and Yoon would be brought down differently. I mean, I like how Go basically ran his only friend off; this guy had served him loyally and basically got beaten in return. But the guy who played Go, Kim Byung Ok, did such a good job of making you hate him that you wanted to see him die and, perversely, made you cheer when he was getting pummeled to a pulp. Chairman Yoon I thought was okay, but I'm not sure I wouldn't rather have seen him brought to justice. Maybe they should've switched the two results.
I'm not entirely sure about Young Dal's installation as CEO. I would think that with the amount of corruption that might be uncovered with Manager Hyun and Chairman Go, that the authorities might want to look into Daejung Group/Casino as well. I'm not sure how it works in South Korea, but here in the U.S., the kinds of things that were brought to light would likely cause the local police, the Feds, and the SEC to investigate, as well as result in congressional hearings and such.
Chairman Yoon contemplates suicide before finally pulling the trigger.
I want to take a moment and praise the acting skills of the entire cast. It was not hard to believe these people were their characters. I'm sure we've all seen shows and movies in which there were one or more celebrities that seemed to be used for star power and not necessarily for their acting ability. But Kim Byung Ki and Jang Dong Jik as Chairman Yoon and Manager Hyun respectively gave chilling performances, portraying men whose calculated greed eclipsed even morality.. Jaejoong did a great job as the intense, driven Young Dal and Siwan as the mercurial, flawed Yang Ha.
So this is the end. I'm kinda sad, having watched the show for more than 3 months. I wanted a happy ending and got that, at least. I just wanted, well, more of a happy ending. Not in any way a ZE:A fan, just a fan of the show itself. Still, I liked the fairytale ending in which the hero is happy, he has his girl, the bad guys have been driven out, and everything's alright with the world. Hopefully you guys liked it too.
A farewell not only to Yang Ha, but to 'Triangle' as well.
