TRIANGLE EPISODE 19
Recap:
Shin Hye informs Dong Soo about Yang Ha, but he refuses to believe it. Chairman Go calls Myung Jae about eliminating his problems, and the latter capitulates by summoning his gang from Busan. Young Dal approaches Yoo Jin, a rich girl that Chairman Yoon tried to set up with Yang Ha, to cut a deal with her family, Han Chang Group; in return, he will send them foreign customers. Young Dal engineers Myung Jae's loss at his casino and gets him to borrow money from the pawnshop owner as part of his plan to impoverish the boss.
Dong Soo follows up on the info from Shin Hye and ends up talking to an old-timer at Daejung Group, who tells him that Yang Ha is happier now that he's a chaebol. Jerry, one of Young Dal's friends, fills Jung Hee in: Young Dal cares for her, but keeps her at arm's length so she would be safe. She confronts Young Dal and asks him not to push her away. Han Chang Group severs its ties with Daejung Group, and Chairman Yoon screams at Yang Ha for his mismanagement. The young chaebol threatens Young Dal over this when Dong Soo walks in, the camera pulling back to focus on all three brothers in the same room.
Myung Jae: "Do you want to die?"
My take:
The love triangle between Yang Ha, Young Dal, and Jung Hee gets new twists and turns. I like how the dealers constantly engage in gossip over their love lives. No one seems to say anything (because they are usually shamed into silence), but still they find out who's dating who. Yang Ha is encouraged by Jung Hee's gratitude toward him, but we find out she's still carrying a torch for Young Dal. If he would reciprocate, he'd have it all, but it's more fun to seem him brood, his heart aching.
So now Dong Soo knows who all his brothers are and sees his two younger ones set against each other. This is classic. So instead of coming together as brothers united against a common threat, they now meet as enemies. But I know both Young Dal and Dong Soo are dead set on reuniting with their youngest. I'm betting that eventually Yang Ha will "defect" to their side once they show him what a real family is like. Remember, all he's known is pain and was treated as more of a successor than a son.
Jung Hee: "Don't push me away."
Young Dal is shaping up to be a sharp cookie. I'm just wondering if his plans will be derailed again like they usually are. Not only does his spy uncover Team Leader Bae as another spy, he uses Bae against Yang Ha. He even has a plan to impoverish Myung Jae, to hit him in the pocketbook where it hurts. Is it weird that I prefer the gangster over the chaebol? That I'd rather see Young Dal win than Yang Ha. I want him to get the girl, I want his plans to come to fruition -- he uses his wits rather than his fists, which appeals to me. Yang Ha is still a very immature, arrogant young man. He's used to getting what he wants and throws a fit when he can't.
The Boss War is coming. I'm really eager to see this. Will Young Dal's casino be torn up in the process? Can Boss Min and Man Bong summon up enough gangsters to take down Chairman Go and Myung Jae? It's fun seeing new aspects pop up. Boss Min calls up her people, Chairman Go calls in his, Myung Jae rings up his people in Busan. It's a lot like a game. A hand is dealt, someone calls, someone else raises, and we go round again. It's just a question of who wins -- Young Dal and Dong Soo, Chairman Go, or does the dealer take all?
Yang Ha: :"What did you do to Yoo Jin?"
This is great TV. I love where this is going, and I'll be sad to see it end. I love the humanizing aspects of brothers trying to find each other and love triangles, as well as the schemes and plans and such. For all that, it doesn't quite fall into soapy territory, and that's nice too. The writers have woven an intricate web here, and I can't wait to see where all the strands finally connect.
