ANGEL EYES EPISODE 16
Soo Wan gives the engagement ring back to Dong Joo and breaks up with him, which is not taken well by Hye Joo. Although Dong Joo and Soo Wan keep vigil over and talk to Director Yoon (separately of course), he is still in a coma and cannot hear them or respond. Meanwhile, Woo Chul gets some air on the hospital balcony and overhears Young Ji talking to the Chief of Police about that case while Ji Woon offers Soo Wan more advice about her father. Jin Mo comes down with some virus and passes it to Hye Joo, who gets hospitalized and Dong Joo spends the rest of the episode depressed, occasionally crying. Ji Woon asks more about the hit and run accident, and then we figure out it was him who ran over Jung Hwa! Dong Joo expresses to Director Yoon that he wishes he were awake, so he had someone to talk to. At the end, Director Yoon wakes up and reaches out his hand weakly, but Dong Joo has his back turned and is leaving. With a last gasp, Director Yoon removes his respirator.
Omo! If I thought last episode was gloomy, I wasn't counting on this one. They really pulled out all the stops on this one. I still think the separation is a bit excessive. Soo Wan doesn't want to even see Dong Joo, doesn't want him anywhere near her, even giving the whistle to Hye Joo to give back to Dong Joo. Despite her friends' counsel, they still can't touch the pain that she holds, the knowledge that her father killed someone, even though it sounds like he didn't have much to do with it at all.
Removing his own respirator -- poetic justice?
Personally, I've never been a fan of the "let's break up so I don't cause you further pain" thing. It's not fun and it's not fair. It's almost an insult that you can't handle what the person you love is going through and you can't be there to comfort them through the hard times. Life is hard, no one would deny that, and to deny someone the opportunity to be with you is very painful.
I had my worries about who was driving the car that killed Jung Hwa. Since it happened 12 years ago, it could easily have been a youthful Ji Woon. They didn't seem to give any indication he was drunk, so was it just inattention? It seems like it was not his decision to cover it up, but his mother's? But why would they go all out to do that? Was it because this sort of thing would cause a scene and interfere with his mother's plans to gain power and influence? Or would it be a stain on an already chaebol family? More questions!
Youthful Ji Woon, staring in shock at Jung Hwa's broken body
Also, I thought Jin Mo's disease was rather strange. It seemed to mirror chicken pox, and chicken pox usually requires ice baths to reduce fever and lotion to get rid of the sores. It doesn't go away overnight, either. They didn't say it was chicken pox, but the sores kinda reminded me of that. I also take issue with Hye Joo's quick recovery. I don't know. If any of you know of some variation of the 24-hour flu that causes you to break out in sores, let me know.
So, now that I have more questions than answers, I will be anxiously awaiting the next episode. Bear with me, the week's almost half over.
