Seems like the latest trend is to put ahjummas (older women) in a girl group as project group The Unnies first came out with a similar concept, but now another group called Girl Hood is debuting and getting a lot of attention as people deem them a parody of Girls' Generation.
Girl Hood (pronounced "so-nyuh-shi-jeol" in Korean) are anticipating their debut on March 25 with "Darling, Honey, I Love You" and consist of beauty contestants with an average height of 170 cm (~ 5 feet 7 inches). The oldest member is 37 years old and the youngest is 29 for an average age of 34.
The girls' agency said, "The ahjumma group that boasts of a lovely beauty do give off a similar vibe as Girls' Generation, but they are clearly different. They have the looks and the singing skills that are beyond most girl groups."
Their upcoming debut track "Darling, Honey, I Love You" was composed by Ahn Hyung Min while the lyrics were written by the agency's CEO. The song portrays the love that a wife has for her husband.
The agency rep said, "It was a song based on the theme song 'Tian Mi Mi' of the movie 'Tian Mi Mi.' This breaks the stereotype of ahjummas with a cheerful rhythm that makes people move their shoulders. Girl Hood is the representative ahjumma group that gives hopes and dreams to ahjummas."
Although they're being labeled as an "ahjumma group" the members look quite young in the PR images. However, all members are actually married and Koreans tend to call women ahjummas once they wed, which explains the label!
Meanwhile, you can check out one of their teasers below for the song "Before It's Too Late"!
