Last week, it was revealed that a number of female celebrities were under investigation for possible involvement in a prostitution ring. One person began to circulate a rumor on the internet that celebrity Jo Hye Ryun acted as a broker who organized meetings between the female celebrities and the wealthy men.

On December 16, Jo Hye Ryun made a request for the police to investigate and punish the person who first circulated this rumor in the hopes of preventing further pain to the actress as well as her family and friends. Her agency stated that they were disappointed that the groundless claim was becoming accepted as fact and that they would continue taking action to catch the person who started the rumor.
The agency said, "It is not true at all that Jo Hye Ryun was related in any way to the prostitutes. We requested the investigation in order to stop the spreading of this rumor."
