It was revealed on the 28th that CJ Entertainment & Media signed a contract for a remake of 'Nine' with American production company Fake Empire Entertainment of 'Gossip Girl' fame. While there have been several instances of other Asian countries remaking Korean dramas, this is the first time North America is taking on the task.
Currently, Fake Empire Entertainment is working on the scenario for a pilot episode in America. Production on the pilot video will start early next year, and there are plans to reveal it in a Los Angeles screening in May.
Choi Jin Hee, director of CJ E&M's drama division, said, "Among existing American dramas, the remade products were mostly purchased from British drama formats. However, 'Homeland', which was originally an Israeli drama, is garnering a lot of popularity so they are looking at other countries... This contract came to fruition through an active proposal from the American production company."
'Nine' is a fantasy melodrama about a male protagonist who is able to mysteriously go twenty years back in time nine times. Through these time travels, he is able to change the past, subsequently changing the present.
