2009 was definitely a good year for Girls' Generation / SNSD. Their songs "Gee" and "Tell Me Your Wish / Genie" were both hits and won various awards at both the Melon Music Awards and Golden Disk Awards. They've also recently finished their first solo concert. On January 1, 2010, T-News met privately with SNSD's maknae Seohyun, who recently turned twenty, at KBS 2TV 'Music Bank.' What did you think of 2009? "It felt like a year where all my wishes came true" Obviously SNSD had a successful year. With songs like "Gee" and "Tell Me Your Wish" topping charts and breaking records, it seems like the powerhouse of a girl group is only gaining popularity. To the maknae of the group, it must seem like a huge accomplishment. The group won numerous awards at the 2009 Golden Disk Awards and the Melon Music Awards. Also setting fashion statements with their colorful skinny jeans for "Gee" and marine outfits for "Genie, the group also fanserviced pedophiles ahjussi fans' hearts. Seohyun has been dreaming of a solo concert since before debuting. With the Asia Tour concert, her wish was finally fulfilled. Seohyun said, "It was like a dream. All nine of us had this wish of having a solo concert, and when it came true, I was thrilled. In fact, now we have the opportunity of doing an Asian Tour." "Because it was our first concert, I was jittery and worried. But getting up on stage and seeing so many fans greeting us and cheering for us gave me strength and motivation. I was really happy." "I was really happy that I could see the audience and I just enjoy being with them. It felt like they were giving us energy while we were performing." What does SNSD mean to Seohyun? "We can understand each other with just a glance." Because SNSD has been together for almost ten years andhave  lived together for almost three years now, they are very close by now. Seohyun said, that SNSD is, "My second family. Because we know each other so well, we can understand each other with just a glance. We have great chemistry with each other. We're all teenagers and we're all perky and excited. We are much more crazy in our dorms, and I'm worried that sometimes we're too loud." When I asked Seohyun to recount a fun incident, she told me, "Our heater didn't work one winter.Because it was so cold, we would wake up in the middle of the night. We didn't even realize that our heater wasn't working until two or three days later." "Nothing dramatic has happened yet. All of us brush things off with a laugh. When we are together in our dorm, we never stop laughing. We talk and prank each other all the time. It's really fun living together." Although it feels like SNSD debuted only a few days ago, they have hoobaes (younger/new groups) already. As a maknae of the group,I asked Seohyun how she feels when she sees her hoobaes? "It still feels like I debuted only yesterday. I can still remember our debut performance like it was yesterday. I still get a weird feeling whenever hoobaes greet me as a sunbae." So I asked her what advice she would give to her hoobaes because she has over three years of experience. She replied modestly, "What advice can I give?" After thinking for a while she said, "Rather than advice, I would tell them that it is very important to communicate with your members. With such busy schedules, members are usually on edge. If a misunderstanding occurs, you should resolve it quickly and not let them fester. The more you talk to each other, the close you become with the other members. Eventually they will become family to you." What are your hopes for 2010? "I hope 2010 will be another year of success for SNSD." Seohyun turned twenty this year and will be attending Dongguk University with a Theatre Arts major. I wondered how she felt about making the leap to college. With sparkling eyes she said, "I'm very excited." When she graduated from middle school, she also made her debut in SNSD. She obviously didn't experience the normal life of a high school student. As a freshman in college, she seems to be filled with excitement for school. What are Seohyun's hopes for this year? She replied, "Firstly, I'm going to work harder as a SNSD member. Last year, we received so much love and I think the only way to repay the love of our fans is to work even harder. With our upcoming new album and Asia Tour, I am really going to focus myself onwork. Secondly, I think it is crucial to stay healthy. All nine members are good at taking care of themselves so I hope that we all stay healthy this year. Lastly, I hope that our Asia Tour is a success. Seohyun already has this year all planned out, which I didn't expect from a person with such innocent looks. When asked what she would like to do this year, she said, "I would like to try acting or be casted for a musical. All SNSD members went through not only vocal training, but acting training as well. I have been practicing and I want to be casted in a drama or musical. I want to experience the challenge." It's interesting that Seohyun has been getting so much face time recently. She was a standout at all 3 Gayo Daejuns, getting more stages and appearances than her other members! But who's complaining? This girl is finally answering complaints that she's too camera shy and has no personality.
